Why do clinics need conflict management?
The reasons for implementing conflict management in the clinic vary depending on the particular perspective. Thus, the clinic's board of directors will bring forward other arguments than quality managers, employees, patients or healthcare carriers and liability insurance companies. The varied interpretations and motives exemplify the wide interests for clinical conflict management. Whatever position may be taken up: A modern clinic without conflict management is not imaginable.

   Clinic's board of directors
Conflicts, in their capacity as disturbances, have immense negative effects on those factors that are necessary for clinics to achieve their object; most notably quality, medical achievement, time, flexibility, service and convenience. Conflict management has straight effects on a clincis's effectivity and effiziency and hence is an important instrument for cutting costs resp. for increasing profitability.

   Clinic's quality and risk management
The common purpose of clincical conflict, quality and risk management is to ensure undisturbed and failure-free clinic acitivity. Even so, within the scope of their specific functions clinical conflict, quality and risk management concentrate on different causes of disturbances and failures. Whereas quality and risk management primarily concern with structural and technical sources of disturbances, clinical conflict management in particular attends to disturbances and failures that base on conflicts. According to that conflict management fills a decisive gap and helps to prevent failures. On the other side clinical conflict management helps to improve the medical quality of clinical treatment and makes it less attackable at the same time.

   Employees
General conditions that at one go lead to less conflicts and improve the handling of those, disburden employees, lower fluctuation and enable employees to perform their tasks without a loss of effectiveness, efficiency and quality. In regard to employees conflict management increases job satisfaction, motivation and consequently the quality of the results of medical and nursing treatment.

   Patients
Modern patients do more and more question the performance and results of clinical treatment and expect a convenient and friendly setting with optimally designed processes of care, medical attendance and medical treatment. Conflicts in clinics have negative effects straight on these processes and lead to failures and errors. From patients' viewpoint clinical conflict management directly and indirectly contributes to their security and satisfaction.

Healthcare carriers and liability insurance companies
Healthcare carriers show strong interest in clinics' effectiveness and efficiency. As conflict management is an important instrument for effectiveness and efficiency enhancement, clinical conflict management lately makes a positive impact on healthcare carriers, too. Companies insuring adverse events in health care do not yet presuppose conflict management for a clinic's insurability. But for the very reason that conflicts represent an enormous failure factor clincis will barely be insurable without providing professionel conflict management in future.
